Time Track Pro breaks Merlin

We had a couple of mysterious reports informing us that Merlin freezes whenever Merlin users would edit the project’s start date using the date picker. Up until know we weren’t able to reproduce this effect on our macs, and sampling Merlin’s processes at that moment would not show anything abnormal. After comparing the support profiles of those Merlin users we are now finally able to point out the reason; Time Tracking with Time Track Pro. It somehow manages to freeze Merlin. We have googled a bit for similar symptoms and found some issues with Photoshop CS5. We have reported this effect with Merlin to Bloop and hopefully there will be a fix provided in a future update. Current Solution: In the meanwhile, should you choose to keep on using Time Track Pro Continue reading

Merlin – Start or stop iCal sync

You can synchronize your Merlin project file to iCal via…
File > Publish > iCal

The dialogue let’s you define the synchronization options and whether or not resources calendars should also be included.

If you like for example that Merlin syncs your project changes as soon as you save, you can enable the option “Auto-synchronize after save”.

If you prefer to choose by yourself when to sync, you can leave “Auto-synchronize after save” disabled and re-sync manually to the already existing iCal calendars via File > Publish > iCal > Sync now

In case you want to stop Continue reading

Configuring your router for Merlin web and Merlin iPhone

In case you need to configure your router to access  over the internet by web browser or iOS devices, please check the following configuration information.

Please note:

Q. How to enable UPNP on my router?

A. Modern router (purchased within the last 4 years) usually support UPNP, but this service is often disabled per default. To enable it, you need to call the router settings over a web browser. You simply type its IP address and press Enter. D-Link routers have per default 192.168.0.1, Linksys 192.168.1.1, some other routers prefer 192.168.2.1.

If you are not sure about your router’s address, just call your ‘Network’ Mac OS X System Preference pane, select your connected interface, call ‘Advanced…’ and switch to the ‘TCP/IP’ tab. Your router’s IP will be displayed there.

Upon connection to your router, Continue reading

Things to Merlin – Transfer selected todos to Merlin

This is a  dream come true for Merlin and Things users: Merlin and Things can finally work together.

With just a few clicks you can now export Merlin activities as todos to Things or import todos from Things as activities into Merlin. The two market-leading applications for project management and personal task management on Mac are finally not only complementary on paper but also in practice. An easy and self-explanatory data exchange workflow, implemented in AppleScript, makes this possible.

This article describes the installation procedure of the scripts and the workflows we specifically defined in the latest Merlin 2.7.9 update for the following 2 use cases:

Prepare your Todos in Things and install the scripts

1. Use case „Transfer tasks to Merlin on the same Mac“

2. Use case „Transfer tasks to Merlin on another Mac“

Preparation

Work in Things. Create todos in Things and name them. Add on those todos, if required, due dates, tags, notes and may click the todos to define that they are completed

Installation

  • Download
  • the scripts

  • Expand the zip archive
  • Copy contained AppleScript Application Packages into the ‘Things Scripts’ directory
    /Users/[your user name]/Library/Containers/com.culturedcode.things/Data/Library/Application Support/Cultured Code/Things Scripts/
