How to Create Reports In Merlin 2

Just got an email from one of our fantastic users. He took the time to write up an article on his blog about creating your own reports in Merlin 2. It shows you with step by step instructions how to create a plug-in for the reports, you just require some XSLT knowledge.

If you are interested in creating your own Merlin reports, we recommend How To Create Merlin Reports from Kees Jan Koster.

Thanks Kees!

  1. Unacceptable. If Merlin is to be considered for the “heavy lifting” of real project management work it better get its report engine up to snuff. Everyone knows how often project status reports are required. Simple sorting, report by resource, report by project for multiple resources, etc. should all be standard, easily generated reports. I love Merlin, however, this is a huge product gap as far as I’m concerned. Shame on Merlin!

  2. I have reviewed Merlin. And I enjoyed Merlin except that there are very custom reports. Please let the merlin team improved on the custom reports.

  3. I agree with Jake. I just bought the program because it says in the product overview that Merlin has a POWERFUL built in reporting system. Sorry but POWERFUL is more than exaggerated. I feel a bit betrayed and hope that an upgrade will consider the remarks of your customers.

  4. Thank you Daniel for your comment.

Which reports are you missing exactly so we can plan creating them?

We have posted a set of custom reports in this post series here:

Beside that, there are various ways to ‘report’. You may may copy the contents of selected rows, paste into EXCEL or Word and do your report or charts in those applications.

Or you export the project and import in a third application for the reporting.

And of course you may use Merlin features like Advanced Search, Visible Date Range Limitation and customized views to produce the report information which you may then print or save in a pdf.

  5. I am a 23 year program / project professional.. Merlin is functional to use but the reporting is very disappointing. I would like feedback when Merlin plans to address the reporting gap.

  6. Thanks for your comment. We are currently looking into that. Unfortunately we can’t announce any dates, when it will be released. Sorry.
