Merlin 2 is not compatible with macOS 10.12 Sierra

Long-standing Merlin 2 users know all the benefits that our project management application for the Mac offers. While you’ve been using Merlin 2, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes on its development, and we’re thrilled to present Merlin Project to you.

Now in its fourth edition, Merlin Project combines all the familiar features with a clean, modern user interface, plus comes with a host of improvements to make things easier for you and give you brand new capabilities. Download and install the latest version and open one of your existing projects. See just how easy it is to upgrade.

While Merlin 2 has supported all operating systems since OS X 10.4 (Tiger), this support comes to an end with the upcoming release of macOS 10.12 (Sierra). Apple has made so many changes to its OS over the past decade that it is no longer economically viable for us to maintain Merlin 2. The release of the fantastic new version of macOS 10.12 is a great chance to upgrade to Merlin 2’s successor. Merlin Project runs perfectly on the new operating system.

So, don’t delay: Switch to the new version today. As a loyal Merlin 2 user, upgrading to the new version is straightforward and inexpensive.

  1. Merlin 2.9.9 seems to work just fine under macOS.

The only issue arises when you update to 2.9.10 which contains code to prevent the app from running under macOS – and giving you an ‘you must upgrade’ notice.

So my suggestion is don’t update from 2.9.9…

  2. Yes you are right, we have added the warning. But we did this because of a good reason. Sooner or later you will run into issues and you may lose data. Therefore we decided to add the warning.

  3. Hi Sergey, this is not possible, sorry.
Merlin 2 won’t start on macOS Sierra.

    Best regards, Vicky

  4. It’ interesting why developers from Parallel application are enough clever to develop their application from the very begginning in the way, that helps to survive after 2 OSX updates without recompensation from users.. What type of skills missing for your developers?

  5. Nothing is missing. Merlin 2 is an outdated version. Merlin Project 4 (the current version of Merlin) supports macOS Sierra.

  6. I have been using Merlin for a while now and love it. But in the middle of my project, I had to update to MacOS Sierra. Now I cannot get into my PM files without paying for an upgrade? Not cool. How am I supposed to keep working on the limited budget I have when I cannot even open the PM software I need? Not cool.

  7. Hi Joe,
sure, however the outdated version would need an older macOS. Hopefully you have a mac with 10.11 or older.
    Best regards, Vicky
