Merlin blog: Your order please?

In this blog, our English blog for Merlin and project management on Mac OS X, we have posted more than 200 posts of news, tips and tricks for the Merlin products and sales information so far.

Thinking about a new topic for a blog post, we came up with the idea to ask you, our Merlin users, if there is something you would like us to write about and explain more in detail.

So.. this is your turn and your chance… Just drop your suggestions in the comments and we will do our level best to comply with your wishes.

… your order please?

  1. How about a post on some of the best practises on using Merlin to get the most out of the software?

I know there are more than 1 ways to skin a cat, and more than 1 way to add tasks / dependencies to a schedule, but it would be good to know what you guys think is the ‘preferred’ way to do things.

    Thanks,

    Himanshu

  2. Thanks Himanshu for your comment, you are right there are many possible ways to link activities.

We have written a post about it in November 2009
    http://www.projectwizards.net/en/macpm/merlin/merlin-linking-activities-graphically

-The quickest way is to select the activities and press the ‘chain activities’ button on the tool bar (near the search field)
or to press ctrl + command + L

    – The dependency inspector is very practical when wanting to understand the existing linkages and why the activities are planned as they are planned.

    – I like to connect activities the graphical way

In conclusion there is no preferred way to do things.. other the one you prefer using 🙂

For adding activities, the quickest way is to click the activity under which you would like to get the new one, press command + N and get it in the same level. If you need it as a sub-activity drag &drop it at the right position.

Or right-click the activity under which you would like to get the new one and select from the context menu the appropriate insert possibility.
