Today we’ve released a new free update for Merlin and Merlin Server for Mac. The 2.9.6 update brings more stability. It is recommended for all Merlin and Merlin Server users.
Resolved Issues in Merlin
- Under Mac OS X 10.10.3 and later a project file was corrupt when it was edited by two Merlin clients. If you are using Merlin Server please update it as well.
- Some smaller issues are fixed.
Why Merlin 2.9 not opens mpp files ?
The trial version of Merlin Project tells that this feature is only available for licensed versions.
My 2.9.6 version is licensed and somewhen in the past 2.9 could open mpp files, not recall when that stopped, just discovered it recent.
Is the mpp file created in Project 2013? If so, Merlin 2 cannot open it.
If the mpp file is created by MS Project 2010 or older you need to install the ‘Java Runtime SE 6’.
In this case
– quit Merlin 2 if it currently running.
– install Java from Apple’s URL:
https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572?locale=en_US
– restart Merlin
– call File > New Project
If this works as expected…
– try opening the mpp file by File > Open > …
You should be able to open the mpp file.

Thanks for the reply, I’ll give it a try with Java SE6.
Meanwhile I have another question. Is it possible to change the highlight colors for e.g. non work days ? Maybe by applescript ?

You may change the color of all non-working times in Merlin Project. To do so you do a secondary click onto the non-working days as shown in the Gantt chart and select Style > Non-working times
You cannot change such colors in Merlin 2.
