I was talking the other day with a friend about URL shortening. I find it very practical when entering a link on a blog comment, Â forum answer or in Twitter.
The reasons are obvious: Long URLs may brake on forum answers due to line feeds the forum enters automatically, look stupid in side bars of blogs and are simply totally unpractical in Twitter messages.
The service I use is is.gd, but as I googled a bit I found lots of other URL shortening services as well. The idea dates (according to Wikipedia) to 2001, whereby first realisation started in 2002 (TinyURL).
Wow. It was only last year I have heard of this.
Do you use URL shortening? Which service are you using and would you recommend?
I use Bit.ly, because there is a free OS X Service available (and of course an Expand Service, too 😉

But I do not often use it…
Hey Andreas, great tip, the Mac OS X services saves lots of time… thanks 🙂
