  1. I just saw this blog entry after I had already tested a “basic” connection between Merlin/iCal/DayLite.

I have a Merlin project syncing to iCal. It shows up as an iCal calendar. I then allowed Daylite to sync with this new iCal calendar which became a “DayLite category” in DL.

After testing changes passing fine from all apps to each other thru Apple’s Sync Services. I selected all the Tasks that Daylite had pulled in (and put into the new category) and dragged them on top of the opportunity (or project) listed in my Daylite opportunities list.

So, now a Daylite opportunity has tasks showing up under it that are in fact Merlin tasks. I can make changes to the items and so far the sync has held up.

My wish list would be to be able to have Merlin be able to pull opportunities or projects from Daylite and create Merlin projects out of those with Gantt capabilities.

It would also be nice if each Merlin project did not have to be an iCal calendar (and Daylite category). e.g. it would be great to have a choice that ALL Merlin dates data showed up in iCal in a single calendar (e.g. called From Merlin) and that could also be the single category in Daylite instead of a new category for each new project.

e.g. I may have a category in Daylite called TV Interviews. That means I have a calendar in iCal and a group in Address Book called TV Interviews. Problem is that if I had separate projects in Merlin for CNN TV Interviews, Fox News TV Interviews, the way things appear to me right now, each of these will show up as a separate calendar in iCal and a separate category in Daylite.

So, someone working on 10 web sites could have 10 separate categories/calendars for each separate project in Merlin, instead of one category/calendar called “Web Sites Projects”.

Maybe there is a way to do that and I would love to hear it. I am @imrananwar on Twitter. Thanks and Good luck.

(Resubmitted this as first posting did not show up here).

  2. PS I loved the demo on LgoConsulting’s web site. (They did not touch on how categories are handled which would be great to understand better). Definitely planning to buy it for my own use. Thanks.

  3. Hi Imran,

The ical/isync solutions work great, but the beauty of the MerlinDayliteLink that we have created is that it maintains the resource allocation when it the data leaves Merlin. – Each activity would appear in the user’s calendar in Daylite, using the default Daylite Category. If Daylite then sync with ical, each use would get the Merlin Calendar in iCal too.
