Merlin: Define the visible date range

Eventually when working on long term projects you may want to focus on activities in specific time slots . The “Limit the visible date range” feature of Merlin was specified to help you do this. You define a date range, apply it, Merlin displays only the activities of this specific range and hides other information. Such an “horizontal” limitation of the displayed columns comes in handy when wanting to print the planned activities of your project for specific periods of time.

So how can you define a visible date range and limit the display there?

1. Click the “Limit the visible date range” button. You will find it on the left side of the search field.

2. To enter a date range, define a date in the “From” and “To” fields.

3. You can enable hiding of rows not in range, their values, or to consider Gantt labels when hiding.

4. Press “ok”.

That was it! Now you see your project only in this time slot and the “Limit the visible date range” turns blue.

This setting will be saved in your project, so the limitation of the visible date range will still apply should you save and reopen it . If you want to see the complete project simply click onto the blue button again.

  3. Why is it the webpublishmodule does not have a limit date range functionality? This is a crucial functionality for me to keep my team up to date on projects running for years – and not scrolling their way through months and years of past deadlines.

  4. Hi,

In reports how do you limit data ranges. I want to have a classic report only show a limited range and not the whole project.

    Your help is appreciated.

  5. Hi Keith,

Merlin 2 reports do not obey to limited data ranges of the Merlin views. I don’t see a way outputting just a limited range of the classic report.

In case this is an option… you may download and test Merlin Project beta (http://merlinproject.net) to do your report there.

    Best regards, Vicky
