Merlin download fails sometimes

We’ve had some support mails from time to time reporting us that the downloadable Merlin2.zip extracts on their Macs a broken Merlin.app, which either fails to start or does not create new empty projects.

After searching and searching, we finally managed to nail this down to two possible reasons:

1. Mac users not utilizing the standard Apple’s ‘Archive Utility’ for expanding the zip archive.

One user for example named ‘WinAchiver’. In case you had the same issue, please ctrl (or right) click your Merlin2.zip and select  Open With > Archive Utility explicitly.

Expand with standard Apple's Archive Utility

2. Mac users of download manager apps.

One user for example named ‘Folx’. If having a poor connection to the internet and use download manager apps to quicken the download or resume interrupted downloads, please make sure the downloaded zip is really completed.

Compare its size with the size shown on the update page. If your zip is much too small, try downloading with Firefox, Chrome or even Safari instead, or use following alternative link:

Help us get the big picture:

If this worked for you, please leave us a note and name the expander or download manager app you were using.

Merlin 2.9.2 update with support for OS X 10.9

Today we’ve released a new free Merlin update. 2.9.2 update is recommended for all Merlin and Merlin Server users.

New Features in Merlin

  • Merlin und Merlin Server work now under OS X 10.9 Mavericks as well.
  • Merlin supports the Tags of Mavericks in the file save dialog.

Resolved Issues in Merlin

  • The synchronization between Merlin and Calendar is reimplemented for OS X 10.9 Mavericks. The features are the same, but with one exception: Changes made in the Calendar can not synchronized back to Merlin unter OS X 10.9 Mavericks. In OS X 10.8 and earlier, this is still possible.
  • Changing between the standard and Merlin print dialog under 10.8 could lead to an exception.
  • Under special combinations of countries and languages, Merlin could not handle duration units properly.
  • Resources from an LDAP directory could not be displayed in Merlin correctly.
  • Some exceptions of the resource working times would not get exported into MS Project XML.
  • A few error messages and notifications were misleading.
  • Some project templates and reports are revised.
  • Fixed some translation issues and typos.
  • The German and English help files are updated.

Resolved Issues in Merlin Server

  • Project could not be opened in Merlin, if the Merlin Server did run under OS 10.9 Mavericks.

Merlin – Address Book Contacts on Mountain Lion

I would like to add resources into my Merlin project from the mac Address Book. When I look in the Merlin library the Address Book icon is there but I can’t seem to get it to populate with any contacts. When I drag and drop a contact from my Address Book on to the resources list, it adds a new resource but doesn’t provide any of the contact information. I am using the latest Merlin for Mac OS X version on a current OS X 10.8.x (Mountain Lion)- Can you help?

When working on Mountain Lion, you should allow Merlin to access the Address Book contacts. If this is not the case, Merlin won’t be able to list those contacts in the Library or provide contact information.
So please check System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Contacts > …Â
